THE BITE LIST: SEPTEMBER’S BEST NEW EATS IN HONG KONG

September ushers in a new crop of restaurant openings, seasonal menus, and chef collaborations across Hong Kong’s dining scene. Whether you are after a quiet weeknight dinner or a splashy weekend reservation, Tasha Lam rounds up the tables worth booking this month.

SOMM Unveils Curations with Return of Iconic Morisseau Bouchot Mussels

The French neo-bistro at Mandarin Oriental The Landmark has refreshed its menu with a handful of summer additions. Under the direction of Culinary Director Richard Ekkebus and Chef de Cuisine Jason Wolf, the kitchen blends classic French technique with modern touches.

A returning favourite is the Morisseau Bouchot Mussels (HK$298), cooked in yellow wine and finished with white miso and uni butter. New additions include the Cured Hamachi (HK$258) with citrus dressing and avocado, the O’Connor Angus Beef Tenderloin (HK$488) with crispy Roscoff onions and Cafe de Paris emulsion, and the Pigeon Pithivier (HK$988) — a golden pastry filled with foie gras and mushroom duxelles, served with a Talisker-spiked jus.

Beyond the steamers, expect Chongqing Chicken Wings, Fujian Fried Rice, and charcoal-grilled Kurobuta Pork Char Siu.

Tiffany Blue Box Café Launches Sunday Brunch

The Blue Box Café at Tiffany & Co.’s Lee Gardens flagship has introduced a new Sunday brunch conceived by Michelin-starred chef Agustin Balbi. Priced at HK$658 plus 10%, the experience opens with a seafood tower of oysters, king crab, crab salad with XO mayo and truffle-finished scallops, followed by a choice of mains — think beef Rossini, crab tagliolini or the café’s signature club sandwich — and elegant desserts like the tiramisu sphere and raspberry yuzu cake. Optional wine pairings and champagne cocktails round out the spread.

BaseHall Welcomes Four New Tenants

Central’s go-to food hall is shaking things up with four fresh additions to its Jardine House home. Moon Lok Chao Shan brings six decades of Chiu Chow heritage to BaseHall 02, with its prized 60-year-old master stock anchoring a menu of soyed goose, beef shank, and pork belly served over rice, congee or noodles. For those craving Shanghainese comfort, ghost kitchen Mee Mee Shanghai dishes out freshly made wontons and dan dan noodles through a distinctly Hong Kong lens.

Japanese curry lovers should make a beeline for Kuro Kare, the latest concept from the SEVENS team. The star here is a deeply complex black-gold curry, flame-roasted with a proprietary spice blend and simmered with 10-hour bone broth — try it with the trinity of grilled chicken, beef, and pork belly. Rounding out the newcomers is Ying Hung Palace by Heroes Beer Co, a dai pai dong-style counter made for cold beers, sizzling plates, and late-night hangs. Don’t miss the new EXO Lager on draft.

Haedam Brings Korean Seaweed Soup to Tsim Sha Tsui

A new spot in Tsim Sha Tsui is putting the humble seaweed soup centre stage. Haedam takes the traditional Korean comfort dish and elevates it with premium ocean ingredients, guided by the philosophy of 藥食同源 — that food and medicine share the same origin. The menu focuses on seaweed sourced from pristine waters, served in hearty bowls loaded with seafood. Options range from the Clam Seaweed Soup at HK$158 to a luxurious version topped with sea urchin for HK$218, with abalone, flatfish, and fresh oyster variations in between.

Bamboo Thai Teams Up with THANN for a Wellness Menu

Thai chain Bamboo Thai has partnered with natural skincare brand THANN on a limited-time menu that channels the calm of a spa retreat. Available until 30 September across all four locations, the collaboration pairs Southeast Asian ingredients with THANN’s botanical philosophy.

Highlights include a soothing coconut broth with clams and makrut lime, a zesty beef rice noodle salad with spiced rice powder, and brown rice wok-fried with jumbo crab and shiso. Wellness mocktails like the gut-friendly Chiang Mai Sunrise and the warming Siam Golden Turmeric Hot Latte complete the experience. Diners ordering from the menu receive complimentary THANN trial sets and discount vouchers.

IL PRESIDENTE

The team behind Wan Chai’s Trattoria Felino is back with something moodier. IL PRESIDENTE takes over a Duddell Street spot and turns it into a time capsule of Italian glamour — think velvet banquettes, rosewood panels, and the kind of lighting that makes everyone look good.

Chef Marcello keeps the menu rooted in nostalgia: beef carpaccio finished tableside with aged balsamic, handmade agnolotti stuffed with ossobuco, and a show-stopping porchetta carved right in front of you. Save room for the gelato al tavolo — they churn it fresh at your table.

The bar holds its own too. Simone Ciambrone (ex-Ritz London, Bvlgari Ginza) runs a tight 12-cocktail menu inspired by Italy’s VHS era. The Whisky e Sole is a riff on an Old Fashioned with Fernet and almond liqueur; the Piazza Duomo puts a grown-up spin on the Aperol Spritz. Aperitivo hour just got an upgrade.
